Review by Rafael "Parker!!" Jovine ★★★
A sequel that many have pointed out, it feels very overbloated in content which is a bit overwhelming. At the same time the film is split into two stories that never quite worked for me. Many of the revelations were stretch to the point that by the time the big reveals came, I had already seen them coming thousands away. A lot of the visual effects actually don't look as great as the first one.
With all that against it, the cinematography is still excellent. The performances are somewhat better, especially by Ju Ji-hoon and Kim Hyang-gi, whose whole storyline make perhaps for the best of the two we had. Dong-wook's payoff though was nice and let's just say I…

That moment when Haewonmak snaps and almost reveals otherworldly secrets to Hur Choon-sam, but Hur Choon-sam isn't taking any of his crap and slaps him (more than once) is priceless.

Review by London ★★★★
So the sequel with Along with the Gods I think improves on quite a few things than the first one. The backstory portions for the three Afterlife Guardians are really great, The Household God is a fantastic edition to the story, and the main human character is a lot more engaging. Yet there are a few moments that do drop off.
There are like 3 or 4 twists in the film, one being during a credits scene. However I think all of them were pretty predictable, and while I still enjoyed their execution, feel could be handled better. Maybe don't put so much emphasis on the reveal. Just say it is another thing that is happening instead of this grandiose…

Review by Badboy ★★★½
I like it more than first part, i couldn't say that this is better than the first one but i'm not dissappointed with it.
I enjoyed the film very much. It had the emotional content that helped me to watch the entire film without a sense of boredome.

Take all the emotional impact of the last movie, but compound it with a more complex and intricate plot. And then add some FUCKIN DINOSAURS!!

When there is a forth Along with the Gods that finishes the series, remember that the one with the word last and number 4 in the title is the second one...
Picking up where The Two Worlds concludes, The Last 49 Days focuses on the origins of our three heroic grim reapers (Ha Jung-woo, Ju Ji-hoon, and Kim Hyang-gi). Ha Jung-woo attempts to usher the previous film's vengeful spirit (Kim Dong-wook) through the 7 hells by himself, while Ju Ji-hoon and Kim Hyang-gi are sent to claim the soul of an elderly man which puts them at odds with a protective House God (Ma Dong-seok). The spirit on trial is the brother of the previous film's reincarnation hopeful, but with…

Review by London ★★★★½
I'm so glad The Last 49 Days was as great as I remembered. In fact it was even stronger. I think that having another year behind me of getting more used to the pacing and length of South Korean cinema really helped me get through this movie. On my first watches of both films I thought that they dragged a bit, mostly because of their two and a half hour runtime, but this time around I never really thought any of the scenes slowed down the pacing at all.
The performances were all pretty spectacular, just like in the first film. But shout out to Ha Jung-woo for making me tear up multiple times through the film, with his absolutely…

Review by HKFanatic ★★ 1
The A-list stars deployed in largely thankless roles; the competent but rarely exceptional special effects and action sequences; a tone that might sometimes threaten to grow dark and serious but quickly veers back towards light and quip-y: I think I realized the reason I've bounced so hard off these "Along with the Gods" movies is that they represent the most blatant MCU-ification of Korean cinema yet.

Review by George Philip ★★★
Majority, if not all, of the Korean films I’ve seen have impressed me and there’s a certain drive and uniqueness about them that leave a mark. This was an intriguing concept following the first one, and now as we get in depth as to who the guardians were before everything, really puts things into perspective.
It’s a lot to unravel but it still fits into the story they are trying to tell.Lists:

woah. and i thought this was gonna be bad but WOW. This 2nd movie really outstand itself. We get to see the original three guardians from the first movies again and this time, they're backstory which was so heart-warming. We also get to see a familiar person on trial.
This really outstands from the first film. I can't wait to see the 3rd movie.
